One problematic area of solar power generation is how to efficiently combine and convert the DC power output of several PV modules into a single AC power signal. This is particularly true on the utility-scale. Thousands of solar modules are typically strung together into Christmas-light like strings, where a single fault or shaded module can detrimentally affect the system as a whole. In addition, these faults may be difficult to identify and isolate. Our patented Line Interface Inverter solves these problems by allowing modules to be wired in parallel to each other. This is accomplished by individually monitoring and performing power optimization on module output. Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) is then provided at the inverter’s input for each module. The result is an efficient and easy-to-maintain PV system.
